SUMMARY:EOSC Symposium 2023
DESCRIPTION:#EOSCsymposium23\nMadrid is getting ready to host the annual EOSC event\, EOSC Symposium 2023. Over 470 individuals\, representing policy and decision makers\, experts and practitioners from the EOSC field\, have registered to participate (online and in person). Since this year’s symposium will be in hybrid format\, if you have not secured a spot yet\, please register for online participation by Thursday\, 14 September\, close of business: \nhttps://events.eoscfuture.eu/eoscsymposium23/begin \nThe event will kick off on Wednesday\, 20 September\, at 9.15 CEST sharp. The opening session will be chaired by Anna Panagopoulou\, Director for ERA & Innovation\, DG Research and Innovation\, European Commission\, and will start with a welcome speech from Gonzalo Arévalo\, General Director for Research Planning\, Spanish Ministry for Science and Innovation. Opening messages will also be heard from the European Commission\, jointly by Ms Panagopoulou and Gustav Kalbe\, Acting Director of DG Connect C – Digital Excellence and Science Infrastructure. \nThe floor will then be passed to the keynote speakers: Joaquin Tintoré\, Research Professor from the Spanish Research Council (CSIC) and Director of SOCIB\, the Coastal Ocean Observing and Forecasting System of the Balearic Islands\, who will address how Open Science principles are applied to SOCIB’s research infrastructure for ocean observation and data. Emanuela Girardi\, Founder and President of Pop AI and President of ADRA (AI\, Data\, Robotics Association)\, will offer the audience a deep dive into the complex world of AI and reflect on its current\, and potential\, impact on research. \nA second plenary will focus on the achievements of the EOSC tripartite collaboration. The morning will end with a presentation on the main results and legacy of the EOSC Future project. \nDuring the afternoon of 20 September\, and the following days\, participants will have the opportunity to discuss governance\, financial\, technical\, policy topics related to EOSC\, complemented by sessions aimed at increasing awareness among the EOSC community about the developments of other strategic initiatives such as data spaces\, Destination Earth\, European Digital Infrastructure Consortium (EDICs)\, to mention a few. The closing plenary on Friday\, 22 September\, from 11-12.30 CEST\, will bring together key EOSC stakeholders\, together with the audience\, to discuss the future of EOSC\, in particular EOSC federation. \nThis is just a short overview of what to expect during the EOSC Symposium. Six topics have been prioritized by the community and added to the programme: \n\nEOSC Nodes\nTrust in Sharing Sensitive Data\nHarmonised PID practices for protected data\nData spaces in dialogue: Cultural heritage data as an essential resource for humanities research\nDigital twins and EOSC: Advancing data-driven science through optimal data use\, data management\, computing and research infrastructures. Insights from the Biodiversity Digital Twin project (BioDT)\nLeveraging global data communities in regional initiatives and cross-border infrastructures\n\nThese sessions will be featured on Thursday 21 September from 16 to 18:15 CEST. SUMMARY:41st Conference of Rectors and Presidents of European Universities of Technology
DESCRIPTION:Digital transformation spans many concepts such as artificial intelligence\, cloud computing\, Internet of things\, and big data\, and is inducing fundamental changes in all parts of society including universities.\nUniversities of technology have particular tasks and should take leading roles in shaping these general developments. At the same time\, they need to decide how to use the opportunities offered by digitalisation in the most appropriate ways for their activities in education and continuing education\, research and innovation\, and outreach as well as for many aspects of institutional management always choosing the right balance between digital and traditional analogue approaches. DESCRIPTION:Building on the success of the joint EOSC and Data Spaces introductory webinar held on June 26th\, a second session will be organised to delve deeper into the topic of maximising the value of research data for data spaces.
