SUMMARY:Science Europe / Open Science Conference
DESCRIPTION:Science Europe invites institutional leaders\, researchers at all stages of their career\, and experts from the field to join its 18 and 19 October 2022 conference on Open Science to discuss two key questions: \n\nIs Open Science ready to become the norm in research?\nHow do we ensure this becomes an equitable transition?\n\nTo find answers to these questions\, the conference will provide a comprehensive overview of practical and policy initiatives\, research assessment reforms\, and financial measures that support the transition to Open Science. We will also look forward at new and emerging trends. \nGoals of the conference\nParticipants are invited to discuss the many facets related to the transition in a highly interactive event. We will specifically cover: \n\nOpen Science and society\, including equity\nOpen Access to all types of research outputs\nEvolving research assessment and evaluation practices\nAccess to and use of open research infrastructures\nOpen Science policies\n\nScience Europe organises this conference at an important time for Open Science. The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the value of open and collaborative research\, and several recent publications have driven the implementation of Open Science policies and the need to discuss shared values\, principles and standards. These include the final report of the Open Science Policy Platform (2020) and UNESCO’s ‘Recommendation on Open Science’ (2021). Earlier in 2022\, the Open Science Conference organised under the French Presidency of the Council of the EU\, took stock of the links between various aspects of Open Science. \nScience Europe aims to bring clarity to an increasingly complex transition and sprawling number of interlinked initiatives that affect the future of the research and innovation landscape. The plenary sessions will focus on strategy and direction\, and set the stage for practical\, action-oriented breakout discussions. The conference will be one of the first to establish and explore equity as a key consideration in its own right when discussing Open Science. \nThe EOSC Association at the Conference\nEOSC Association Director Sarah Jones participated in a breakout session on 18 October: “Are services and infrastructures in place to support Open Science across the entire research cycle?” \n>> Programme and registration

SUMMARY:ICRI 2022
DESCRIPTION:In October 2022\, Brno will host a gathering of leaders in the field of research infrastructures – their users\, policymakers\, and stakeholders. The South Moravian metropolis will host the International Conference on Research Infrastructures\, a major worldwide event\, a global forum encouraging cooperation and discussions on the importance of research infrastructures. The event will also offer an accompanying programme and will be open to the broader public for the first time in its history. \nThe Czech Republic will host ICRI – International Conference on Research Infrastructures\, a worldwide event providing an opportunity for strategic discussions about international cooperation of research infrastructures. ICRI 2022 will visit Brno on the occasion of the upcoming Czech Presidency in the EU Council in the 2nd half of 2022. It will provide a platform for high-level debates of research infrastructure policymakers\, operators and users\, and research stakeholders from around the world to address the most pressing research infrastructure topics. \nThe conference will be held under the auspices of the Ministry of Education\, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic\, the Masaryk University\, and the Central European Institute of Technology in Brno. The organisers will closely collaborate with the European Commission´s Directorate-General for Research and Innovation\, financially contributing to the event’s organisation via the 9th EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation Horizon Europe. \n„Our key themes will be the socioeconomic benefits and social responsibility of research infrastructures\, their role and international cooperation\, and ways of developing an integrated research infrastructure ecosystem\,“ states Ondřej Hradil\, the main organiser and Research Infrastructures Manager at Masaryk University. The ICRI 2022 programme will combine plenary and parallel sessions with 450 attendees participating in person and hundreds more online. \nAs the conference host\, Brno will strengthen its position as an emerging science and technology hub in Central Europe and will become a worldwide centre for research infrastructure stakeholders’ debates from 19th to 21st October 2022. \nThe programme will also include several satellite events and side events as well as site visits to research infrastructures located in Brno. And as the organisers also aim to reach out to the broader public\, a new feature of the conference will be the so-called citizen programme prepared in cooperation with local institutions such as Brno Observatory or VIDA! Science Centre. Last but not least\, as a back-to-back event\, the European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures (ESFRI) meeting will take place in Brno in the same week. \nThe EOSC Association at ICRI 2022\nEOSC Association Director Suzanne Dumouchel is joining a panel discussion on Research Infrastructures and Sharing Scientific Data Globally on 19 October 14:00-15:30 CEST. \nFor more information

SUMMARY:National Open Science Conference – Openness for Climate Justice - 2022
DESCRIPTION:The Open Access and Open Science Conference\, which has been held regularly since 2011\, was hosted by İstinye University and in cooperation with İzmir Institute of Technology (İYTE)\, TÜBİTAK and Hacettepe University\, with the theme of “Openness for Climate Justice”\, which is the main theme of International Open Access Week this year\, on October 20. It will be held in Istanbul in 2022 . \nThis year’s theme provides an opportunity  to foster connection and collaboration among the international open (access) community\, take action and raise awareness about how openness enables climate justice. Sharing information is a human right. Fighting the climate crisis requires rapid information exchange across geographic\, economic and interdisciplinary boundaries. \nAt the Open Access and Open Science Conference\, current topics such as open access on the climate axis\, open science\, open  data and research data\, Diamond Open Access\, which is seen as a solution for sustainable open science\, transformation in publishing and new metrics used in research evaluation\, will be discussed. emphasis will be placed. \nThe aim of the conference is to support the compatibility of open science policies\, strategies\, legislation\, infrastructure and services in Turkey with the European Union (EU)\, to share information about the studies carried out and targeted to be carried out in our country and to evaluate the points reached with all stakeholders.

SUMMARY:EOSC Pillar: Final Conference
DESCRIPTION:The EOSC-Pillar Final Conference: Building an EOSC from National Contributions will highlight some of the main results of the EOSC-Pillar project alongside other European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) regional projects and national initiatives\, in particular how they provide important foundations for the operations and sustainability of EOSC. The event also aims to provide a forum for the EOSC community at the European level and the national initiative representatives to meet and generate collaborations and meaningful activities. \nSince beginning in July 2019\, EOSC-Pillar has worked with key representatives of national Open Science initiatives in Austria\, Belgium\, France\, Germany and Italy to ensure their contribution and  readiness for the implementation of EOSC. EOSC-Pillar has analysed the state of the art of national initiatives and compute and data services and supported consolidation\, harmonised procedures for the delivery of horizontal enabling services for research data across countries\, collaborated with other initiatives to achieve harmonisation for an inclusive EOSC\, promoted FAIR data uptake at national levels and across scientific communities and borders\, enabled non-commercial transnational services to accessible through the EOSC Portal\, built an active stakeholder community of EOSC supporters in each country\, and proposed viable business models for the sustainable provision of transnational services. At the same time\, its counterpart projects also worked towards similar goals in their own regions and national institutions worked towards aligning better with EOSC. \nUnderstand how well integrated are national initiatives to EOSC and where else does the work remain. This is a public event and so\, key players in the EOSC community are encouraged to attend. Register now! Limited seats available. \nProgramme and Registration
