SUMMARY:Engaging researchers with FAIRNESS
DESCRIPTION:The “FAIR Implementation Workshop – Engaging researchers with FAIRness” will take place on 2 February 2024 10:00-12:00 CET. Confirm your registration below. Note: Registration for the workshop is free but mandatory. \nThe aim of this workshop is to introduce methods for supporting the engagement of research communities in the FAIR data movement\, both as data producers and users. The focus is on the importance of national level initiatives and policies. Drawing from a span of different experiences\, including the EOSC ‘Researcher Engagement & Adoption Task Force (REA TF)\, the workshop will share insights on engaging research communities. The challenges at both EOSC and the national level are similar\, requiring the engagement of diverse stakeholders from various scientific communities with distinct approaches to research data. The workshop will include discussions on potential methodologies that can be implemented to effectively communicate with a wide-ranging community and activity involve them in the dynamic of FAIR data. \nSpeaker: \nSverker Holmgren (EOSC Association) has been recruited in 2020 by Chalmers University of Technology (Göteborg\, Sweden) as the Director of Chalmers e-Infrastructure Commons. Chalmers e-Commons is a recently initiated digital research infrastructure\, implementing and/or providing access to the full spectrum of services needed by Chalmers researchers using a data-centric approach. E-Commons is also the local interface towards national and international e-infrastructure and data initiatives. He is appointed as the Chalmers Delegate to the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) Council and the Chalmers representative in the European university network CESAER´s Working Group on Open Science.

SUMMARY:OSTrails Kick-off meeting
DESCRIPTION:The meeting will be held in Athens on the 5th & 6th of February\, with online participation available. The goal of the kickoff\, is to promote a shared understanding of the project’s objectives and context\, outline each partner’s roles and responsibilities\, and devise a strategy for the first 12-month period. \nOSTrails aims to advance processes and instruments for Planning\, Tracking\, and Assessing scientific knowledge production beyond state-of-the art\, working with various national and thematic contexts\, improving existing infrastructure\, and connecting key components. By increasing the efficacy of Data Management Plans and turning them from static narratives to living\, it aims to interconnect “machine actionable” resources. \nFor the Track stage\, OSTrails is set to establish an open\, interoperable and high-quality ecosystem of Scientific Knowledge Graphs\, enriching them to become evidence of communities’ FAIR implementations. For the Assess stage\, OSTrails aims to deliver modular and expandable FAIR tests\, towards “machine actionable” metrics\, complemented by user guidance.

SUMMARY:TITAN kick-off meeting
DESCRIPTION:The TITAN project will enrich the EOSC Interoperability Framework with a software platform solution for confidential data collaboration. It aims to further develop secure and privacy-preserving data processing. The platform will enable access to sensitive data sets from public entities and government agencies and will be compatible by design with the EOSC Interoperability Framework on the technical\, semantic\, organisational and legal layers. \nTo promote community adoption of TITAN’s open-source software artefacts\, the solution will be practically demonstrated in several vertical cross-border scenarios – notably in the public administration and healthcare sector. \nThe starting date 1 February 2024\, coordinated by University of Murcia with a total budget of 5M.

SUMMARY:EOSC Finnish Forum: Achievements in 2023 and what is coming up in 2024
DESCRIPTION:To kick-start the year EOSC Finnish Forum organises a webinar that has already become a tradition. We will look back summarizing the main achievements of the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) in the past year and look ahead to 2024 that is going to be crucial for EOSC in many ways. Two big topics among other developments are the EOSC federation and the post-2027 governance model. \nThis is going to be the year when the EOSC federation will be established. The EOSC federation refers to a federation of distributed systems\, combined into a system of systems consisting of multiple “nodes” that are interconnected and can collaborate to share and manage information and resources across thematic and geographical boundaries. The federation and the concept of EOSC nodes have raised a lot of questions within the EOSC community. In the webinar\, we will explain these in more detail and point out which are the open questions that still need to be answered. \nEOSC is currently governed through a co-programmed European Partnership under the Horizon Europe framework programme that will end in 2027. This means that the current EOSC governance comes to an end with it. Figuring out the future governance model for EOSC is another major issue to be tackled in 2024. The European Commission\, the EOSC Association and the EOSC Steering Board\, who together comprise the current tripartite governance and strategic coordination system\, have been busy initiating discussion on the future governance of EOSC and investigating different scenarios. Join us to hear what are the options on table for the post-2027 governance model and what are the next steps in making the final decision. \nAgenda \n9.00-9.05 Welcome\, Anu Märkälä\, CSC\, EOSC Finnish Forum Office \n9.05-9.30 EOSC achievements in 2023 and EOSC agenda in 2024\, Sara Garavelli\, CSC\, EOSC Finnish Forum Coordinator & EOSC Programme Manager and EOSC Association Board of Directors \n9.30-10.00 Q&A \nThe webinar will be held in English. \n\nIf any questions\, please contact:  eosc-ff-support(at)postit.csc.fi

SUMMARY:Creating Community-Driven Pathways to Equitable Open Scholarly Publishing – Where Are We Now
DESCRIPTION:Join us on the 27th of February at 3 PM CET to hear essential updates from three European Commission-funded projects – CRAFT-OA\, DIAMAS\, and PALOMERA – working towards an equitable future for scholarly communication\, with academic communities at the centre. You will hear about the latest developments in their work and be able to join a discussion to share your feedback with them. \n\nCRAFT-OA empowers regional journal platforms and publishing service providers to upscale\, professionalise\, and reach stronger interoperability with other scientific information systems\, by providing services and tools. They will present the newly published “Report on Challenges and Help Measures Faced by OA Journals and Platforms” as well as give a peek at the “Diamond Discovery Hub”.\nDIAMAS develops common standards\, guidelines and practices to build capacity for the Diamond publishing sector. They will present new findings from a large study conducted across Europe\, which sheds light on the operations of Diamond publishers and builds a case for how they can be supported to advance Open Science.\nPALOMERA sets out to provide actionable recommendations and concrete resources to support and coordinate aligned funder and institutional policies for Open Access books. They will present information about the OA book policies data collected and incorporated in the Knowledge Base as well as how is this data being validated by the community.\n\nAdditionally\, an external invited speaker will talk about the importance of this cross-collaboration and policies in the OA landscape. \nBe part of this conversation and help us shape the future of Open Access as a community! \nTo register for the event\, please fill in this form and a calendar invite will be sent to you.
