Confirm your registration below. Note: Registration for the workshop is free but mandatory. \nThe Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment (CoARA) is a group of organisations who work on harmonising the assessment of research. It takes into account practices and activities that maximise the quality and impact of research. It involves basing assessment primarily on qualitative judgment\, for which peer review is central\, supported by responsible use of quantitative indicators. \nThis two-hour workshop will focus on the topic of research assessment to help the selected candidates to draft their FAIR implementation action plan by taking into account the research assessment aspect. \n  \nSpeakers: \nErzsébet Toth Czifra (CoARA) is the Open Science Officer of DARIAH ERIC where she is responsible for fostering and implementing policies and practices related to the open dissemination of research results in the arts and humanities. Her advocacy activities include charing DARIAH’s research data management working group\, providing workshops\, webinars\, and other training activities to arts and humanities scholars on a regular basis. She is also involved in European science policy making as well as European infrastructure-building projects such as SSHOC\, OPERAS-P and TRIPLE. She received her PhD in Cultural Linguistics and also has a background in scholarly communication.Toth Czifra (CoARA). \nKatarzyna Nawrot holds a PhD in Economics from the Poznan University of Economics (UEP). She is a Professor at the Department of European Studies at the UEP. In the context of the Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment (CoARA)\, she is leading an international team dealing with indicators and parameters in the evaluation of science. Their work is based on a community of practice with exchange of knowledge and experiences. It is open to the global level and not restricted to the European one.

The project has already launched several demonstrators (see Technical Foundations)\, showcasing its practical applications in areas such as biodiversity\, research data quality assurance\, and cross-platform data analysis. To further explore new areas\, the first open call was released inviting companies to develop innovative data exchange scenarios between industry and academia. This call announced three research and development contracts\, each funded with a budget of €60\,000. Fraunhofer is set to announce a second round soon\, continuing with the same overall budget of €180\,000. \n  \nObjective of the Webinar: \nThis webinar will introduce the upcoming second round of the FAIR Data Spaces project’s open call. Ideal for existing partners and new participants\, this session aims to enhance understanding of the project’s scope and to streamline the submission process for new tenders. Attendees will gain insights into the project’s achievements and learn about the expectations for upcoming submissions\, including opportunities for creating new demonstrators. \n  \nKey Discussion Points: \n\nIntroduction to the FAIR Data Spaces project and its significance in the current research and industry landscape.\nOverview of the developed demonstrators and an explanation of the expectations and requirements for the second round of tenders\, including potential areas for new demonstrators and improvements.\nOpen discussion for feedback from participants to understand their perspectives and expectations\, ensuring the upcoming tender aligns with the needs and capabilities of the community.\n\nTarget Audience: \nThis webinar is tailored for companies and organizations across various sectors looking to deepen their engagement with advanced data management approaches\, as well as those already involved in data exchange projects and initiatives. The webinar is an opportunity for organizations aiming to influence and harness the latest in data exchange technologies within the frameworks of Gaia-X and NFDI. \nRegistration Details: \nMark your calendar for May 27th! SUMMARY:WSIS Action Line C7 E-science: Assessment of progress made over the last 20 years
DESCRIPTION:With the deadline to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) fast approaching\, the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) is poised to address the critical role of the intersection of the Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) and sciences in accelerating progress towards sustainable development goals. The focus of this panel will be to discuss and debate the most important issues in the intersection of new technologies and science and that will catalyze action around policy reform\, establishing rights-based frameworks\, enhancing digital accessibility\, fostering openness in innovation\, and ensuring inclusive multistakeholder collaboration. The proposal has been developed taking into account the UN’s Key Proposals Across the 12 Commitments. \nThe dynamic interface between eScience and new technologies serves as a critical axis for the future of scientific inquiry and collaboration. In this context\, recognizing the revolutionary influences of developments like artificial intelligence\, big data analytics\, and synthetic data generation on research methodology\, data dissemination\, and collaborative scientific effort become critical. The incorporation of new technologies such as generative AI into the research ecosystem represent a significant leap\, allowing for the automation of difficult analyses\, the generation of novel ideas\, and the acceleration of discoveries across multiple scientific fields. Similarly\, the integration of big data analytics into eScience has unprecedented opportunities for predictive modeling\, trend analysis\, and informed decision-making. Additionally\, the new field of synthetic data generation\, a technology promising to revolutionize research by providing realistic\, yet privacy-compliant datasets. While these technologies can address real time effectiveness of scientific solutions\, they can also generate ethical\, privacy and security risks to humanity. \nWithin these contexts\, opening science and technological democratization can not only be a challenge but also unfold new dimensions for open access to research\, data\, software and scientific infrastructure. Thus new policies\, strategies and workflows have become necessary for their governance\, ethical upscaling\, reproducibility and integrity. \nObjective: \nThe panel will discuss and aim to establish a consensus on the need for WSIS to reorientate its actions towards the protection of digital rights\, the guarantee for universal access to information and technology\, the promotion of open solutions\, and the engagement with multiple stakeholders. \nKey Focus of the panel: \n\nWhich new policy frameworks are required to optimize the role of emerging technologies\, ensuring their accessibility\, safeguarding digital rights\, and promoting openness in the scientific domain?\n\nKey global and national policy shifts that will help prioritize digital rights\, privacy\, and ethical standards in the use of new technologies for scientific advancements.\n\n\nHow can eScience contribute to improving the accessibility of new technologies for the broader scientific community?\n\nStrategies to eliminate barriers to access to new technologies for scientific research\, focusing on underserved communities and marginalized groups.\n\n\nWhat forms of Openness and Innovation must be fostered to enhance the accessibility of new technologies to sciences?\n\nOpen standards\, open-source technologies\, and open data essential for fostering innovation and collaboration to leverage the power of new technologies for solving complex global challenges and driving sustainable development.\n\n\nWhat new collaborations are essential to encourage multistakeholder collaboration in harnessing the potential of new ICT solutions for scientific innovation?\n\nFrameworks for effective collaboration among governments\, private sector\, academia\, civil society\, and international organizations to leverage ICTs and science for the SDGs.\n\n\nWhat new rights-Based approaches are essential in the wider domain of science and technology and innovation?\n\nEnsuring that ICTs and scientific advancements are aligned with human rights principles\, addressing issues such as digital divide\, data protection\, and equitable access to technologies.\n\n\n\nExpected Outcomes: \n\nThe establishment of a consensus on policy reform\, enhanced accessibility\, the promotion of openness\, and the engagement in multistakeholder collaboration as foundational pillars in customizing eScience to further the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).\nThe development of a comprehensive action plan that articulates specific initiatives\, offers policy recommendations\, and outlines collaborative frameworks aimed at implementation by the year 2030.\nThe issuance of a formal statement to be recognized by the Chief Executives Board (CEB) that reaffirms the significance of adopting rights-based\, inclusive methodologies to maximize the utility of new technologies in scientific innovation and sustainable development.
