We have been very busy here at the EOSC Association preparing for the 21 November General Assembly #7, where several important votes will take place. Your final opportunity to register is by this Sunday, 12 November.

Another date we would like you to take note of: the EOSC Symposium 2024, which will be held in Berlin, is locked in for 21-23 October. Please mark your calendars!

Below we feature recaps and photos from several EOSC-related events in October and November that our board members participated in and that have played a role in advancing the implementation of EOSC at the national and EU levels. We also provide an update on the status of our Task Force deliverables and renew our call for reviewers to bring the last 11 deliverables to publication. October brings with it a torrent of activities within the EOSC ecosystem, but we first call your attention to two priority action items for our Members: the AAP 2024 survey and the 7th General Assembly, both of which merit your prompt attention.

The past month, meanwhile, has seen a number of initiatives within the Association come to fruition: new deliverables from the Financial Sustainability and Technical Interoperability task forces, a new website for the Association, the release of the EOSC implementation Macro-Roadmap, and an enlightening National Tripartite Event in Madrid. Of course we have included a roundup of the 500-strong EOSC Symposium 2023, including access to photos and presentations. And, finally, don’t miss the release of GÉANT’s position paper on the EOSC nodes as well as EOSC-CZ’s announcement of national support for EOSC implementation in Czechia.

All things EOSC have kicked into high gear for the autumn, and we have a packed newsletter for you this month. First and foremost we call your attention to the ongoing Additional Activities Plan reporting, assessing 2022 contributions and 2024 planned contributions. The deadlines have been extended, so please complete the surveys as soon as possible.

GA#7 save-the-date: 21 November! The online EOSC-A 7th General Assembly will include the election of three Board members and other decision-making items critical to the Association’s future. Below you will find a call for candidates for Board members. You will also notice a call for reviewers for the Task Force deliverables pending release, where we need your help!

We look forward, of course, to the EOSC Symposium later this month (updates below) and the Spanish National Tripartite Event. Please read on to catch up on the many more upcoming events and activities moving EOSC forward.

While we hope you are enjoying the summer and recharging the batteries, we wrapped up in this newsletter some of the upcoming deadlines, such as the AAP 2022 and 2024 surveys and the possibility to comment on the EOSC Association's Bylaws. Looking further at the autumn events, mark on your calendar the EOSC Symposium, the EOSC-A 7th General Assembly and the National Tripartite Event in Spain. The last month has brought a riot of activity dedicated to the implementation of EOSC in advance of the summer break, and has brought the autumn schedule into focus. The first order of business is the opening of the Additional Activities Plan monitoring surveys, including validation for 2022 and forward reporting for the 2024 AAP. In May and June, the EOSC Partnership took large strides forward with national events in Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Italy and France, a seven-nation EOSC Focus roundtable in Poland, and a two-day coordination meeting between the Horizon Europe EOSC-related projects, the European Commission and the EOSC Association. Meanwhile, the conclusion of the Swedish Presidency of the Council of the European Union has thrust EOSC into the spotlight both in Brussels and abroad. Finally, don’t miss the first interview in our series highlighting EOSC-A Mandated Organisations, featuring Chris De Loof of Belnet. Mark your calendars for the 7th General Assembly of  EOSC-A, to be held online on 21 November, and see the mid-September EOSC Symposium in Madrid.

This month’s newsletter leads off with a recap of the Association’s major event of 2023, the 6th General Assembly meeting, where more than 200 of EOSC-A’s Delegates, Board, Secretariat and others gathered for two days in Brussels to lock in progress, admit new Members, and advance the discussions around the future of EOSC toward action. Looking ahead, June will bring the launch of the next EOSC-A Additional Activities Plan survey, while a number of EOSC and Open Science events will be taking place in the build-up to the Swedish Presidency of the EU Council — including one at the EOSC-A office in Brussels. Also in June we look forward to the large coordination meeting between EOSC-A, the Commission and all of the EOSC-related Horizon Europe Projects. Meanwhile, we mark the European Tripartite Event held in May, the Italian, Czech and Slovak National Tripartite Events (NTE) from the past week, and look forward to reporting on France’s first NTE planned for next week. In April the Association ran a series of surveys and consultations, which received a large number of responses from the community. Below you can read an update, while the full results will be presented at this month’s General Assembly. Speaking of which, if you have not yet registered, please note there is only one more week to secure your place at the 22-23 May meeting in Brussels. 

April also witnessed the first General Assembly of the EOSC Focus project, where all nine consortium members met in Barcelona to assess the project’s substantial progress and to continue to align collaborations across the EOSC Partnership. Below you can read a recap of the Dutch National Tripartite Event in Utrecht, and preview upcoming national events in Slovakia, Czech Republic and Italy. Finally, please note that the all-new, all-in-one Member survey to cover reporting of 2021 and 2022 Additional Activities, and to collect 2024 Additional Activities, will launch in June.

In the beginning of April Members and Observers of the Association can still send their inputs and feedback on the Multi-Annual Roadmap 2025-27 and the Associations’ Bylaws. We also invite them to register for the 6th General Assembly, which will take place this May in Brussels.

In the Newsletter you will find the summaries of the three National Tripartite Events that took place this March in Hungary, Bulgaria and Croatia and a preview of the upcoming events and news from the EOSC community. Lastly, you can get to know the Co-Chairs of the Research Engagement and Adoption Task Force.

It is time to register, register, register and get your spring calendars organised! The first order of business is the 6th General Assembly of the EOSC Association, 22-23 May in Brussels. The spring General Assembly is the headline event of the year for EOSC-A, and will be an exclusively in-person meeting. Second, the month-long consultation on the MAR 2025-27 begins this week, and webinars have been scheduled to help our members and observers navigate this activity. Please read on for updates on the many, many other activities taking place around EOSC, both inside the Association and throughout the EOSC Partnership and community at large.

This month, new projects in the EOSC Partnership are underway, 2022’s projects are moving rapidly forward, and two of these have joined forces to exploit common ground. Additionally, as outputs and coordination across the 13 EOSC-A Task Forces gain speed, the big picture of the mosaic of activities across the EOSC ecosystem is becoming ever more defined. We invite you to look carefully through this month’s newsletter for opportunities to become more deeply involved in the development of EOSC.

January will see a widening of the EOSC Partnership with the launch of six new EOSC-related Horizon Europe projects. Meanwhile, the EC’s call for expressions of interest to participate in the procurement of the EOSC Core platform and Exchange remains open through the end of the month. We also have several activities to report on from December that have helped to set the agenda for the coming year. The EOSC-A Board and Secretariat held a joint face-to-face meeting to move the Association’s priorities forward, the Partnership Board held its fourth meeting, and the Task Forces and the EOSC Steering Board have each published new papers for your consideration.

November may have been the busiest month for the Association yet, and we are very proud to bring you our news and updates from EOSC far and wide. Below you will find coverage of the EOSC-A 5th General Assembly, including elections and new members, as well as the EOSC Symposium 2022 and some of the events taking place adjacent to this gathering, including the second European Tripartite Event. We also bring you news of publications from the EOSC-A Task Forces, Ireland’s NORF, Science Europe and an assessment of the INFRAEOSC calls of H2020 by the Association.
