RO-Crate (Research Object Crate)

Q1 2023
  • Implementation challenges
    • Metadata and ontologies
  • BYCOVID

    Result description

RO-Crate is a community effort to establish a lightweight approach to packaging research data with their metadata. Provenance standards have been matured and extended in collaboration with other initiatives. These include workflow related RO-Crate profiles, a Common Provenance Model and stronger support for RO-Crate has been added to the Galaxy data analysis platform.

    Problem addressed

Data are only useful when their context is understood, this context is provided by metadata. However, metadata are not always captured and when they are they are not in a format that allows data analysis and reuse. RO-Crate is a user-friendly way to package data with the metadata, ensuring the data remains meaningful.
